Saddened today to learn of the passing of one of the idols in my early life - my mission training center (LTM in those days) professor. I was one of the missionaries in the first group he taught Portuguese. Thanks to his teaching methods, enthusiasm for the language and the gospel of Jesus Christ, I felt much better prepared to serve in the Brazilian Mission (1963-1965). 
In later years I enjoyed meeting him at mission reunions and recalling the good times, demonstrating my language skills that persisted (thanks in part to his original instructions), and enjoying his fellowship. I was particularly pleased that at the last Brazilian "super" reunion I was able to capture a photo with Ken, my other teacher, Bob Baird; and their supervisor, Ron Dennis. 
Ken was there at a very impressionable time in my life and, as I trust is evident, blessed me with a very favorable memory - one I will all the more cherish knowing that I won't see him for awhile. May his name be revered and his family proud of his legacy !!

I have always loved and admired my Uncle Ken. My earliest memory of Uncle Ken is meeting him at Aunt Lark’s when I was a small child. He was wearing a striped T-shirt (which I thought was a pirate shirt) and had a beard. At first I was scared, but then he smiled that beautiful smile and spoke so kindly to me—and became an instant favorite.  Seeing him always brought me joy. He was so kind, so caring, so empathetic. I remember Uncle Ken reassuring me, when I was an awkward adolescent, that I was a wonderful and important young man. His love and kindness and genuine interest in me was repeated in each of my interactions with him. He had a powerful impact on me. I love you, Uncle Ken. You will be missed until we meet again.
