In his youth, he played football, baseball, and basketball and always loved watching his Cowboys, Yankees, Jazz and Utes. When he wasn’t tuning in to his favorite teams, you’d find him on the golf course or shooting pool with his friends.
Dedicated to the people of our great nation, John spent his entire adult life in uniform. He honorably served his country for four years in the US Navy, then worked for the US Postal Service for 46 years. As a letter carrier he always took care of his customers, with a particular dedication to the elderly. John was very active in the Letter Carriers Union and was shop steward for many years. Sadly, John retired only five months ago.
John was a faithful Greek Orthodox Christian and spent a great deal of time and energy volunteering for his church. As a child, he served in the altar, and nearly to the day he died, he continued to offer his time unto sacred service. He trained new altar boys, assisted the priests with tireless devotion, and even though he wasn’t fond of large crowds, you’d always find him working at Salt Lake City’s annual Greek Festival.
John was a dedicated Mason. He was involved in DeMolay and following the Masonic traditions of his dad, he became a Mason, working his way up the chairs and became the youngest Master Mason at his time and then became a Shriner.
Survived by his sister Elaine Zambos, brother Angelo Zambos (Christy), nephews Jason, James (Jen) Brooklyn, Beau and niece Angie Richards (Zack) Presley, Charley, Kinley and Kendal. John loved his dogs Tashia and Cuddles and now leaves behind his sweet dog Panayiota.
