He was born on July 8, 1929 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Johnie Emit Neal and Clara Lavine Stoker. As a boy he lived in and loved Lehi, Utah.
John served in the Army from 1951-55 at Fort McCarther in San Pedro, California. As a Military Policeman, he stood Honor Guard during the signing of the World War II Peace Treaty and for the return of the first soldiers killed in the Korean War.
John married Carolyn Jane Monson on June 6, 1952, in the Salt Lake Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in Salt Lake City, Utah. John and Carolyn have 6 children Craig (Debbie) Neal of Vancouver, WA., KaLee (Wayne) Harper of Taylorsville, Utah, Larry Neal of Vancouver, WA., David (Al) Neal of West Jordan, Utah, Jeff (Michelle) Neal of Beaverton, OR, and Barbara (Glen) Johnson of Vancouver, WA. John and Carolyn have 37 Grandchildren, 57 Great Grandchildren, and 2 Great Great Grandchildren.
John worked most of his life with Dairy Co-ops in Salt Lake City Utah, Boise Idaho and Portland Oregon. He was a part owner and manager of the Quick Shop Minit Marts in Vancouver, Washington. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and the outdoors. He also became a great oil painter after he retired, a talent he did not discover till later in life. He enjoyed traveling throughout the world with Carolyn. John also enjoyed Scouting with the Boy Scouts of America. He was a District Chairman in Salt Lake City, a Scoutmaster for the 1964 National Jamboree Troop from Salt Lake City, a Scoutmaster of his local Troop and a District Chairman in Boise. He received the Silver Beaver award for his outstanding service in the Scouting Program.
John is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many leadership positions. John and Carolyn served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint in Christchurch New Zealand Mission, serving much of the time in West Port, NZ. He also served in the Portland Oregon temple as an ordinance worker for 17 years. John’s life was centered on Jesus Christ and his family. They were the two most important parts of his life. At the time of his death, he was a member of the Salmon Creek Ward in Vancouver, WA.
He has now gone to be with his wife Carolyn, sister Barbara and his parents. Funeral services will be held at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park and Mortuary in Salt Lake City, Utah and in Vancouver, Washington.
