Joanne was born April 21, 1934 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Edwin Oscar Tannlund and Edith M. Tannlund.
Joanne attended South High School, graduated in 1952 and met Johnny while they were both working at Burgess Motors in Salt Lake City that same year. Joanne and Johnny were married on November 26th, 1952. Joanne and Johnny and their young son Craig, packed up their lives and moved to El Paso, TX where Johnny worked for Dixon Paper. After 3 successful years and dinners at Luby’s, Johnny would accept a job with Farm Bureau which would bring them back to Salt Lake City. Joanne and Johnny added a daughter, Michelle, to their family and started working hard to build a business of their own. In 1977, Sentry West Insurance Services was founded and grew for more than 30 years into a successful enterprise with four offices around the state and many employees they considered friends for life. Many say Joanne, with her endless optimism and belief in Johnny’s ability to sell, was the real driver behind the decades of growth and expansion. After this life accomplishment, Joanne and Johnny decided they wanted to work more in their yard, play more bridge and spend more time with their family.
Joanne was an amazing chef and enjoyed baking her popular gingerbread men cookies during the winter holidays. She would enlist her daughter and granddaughters every year and give them strict orders on how to roll the dough, how closely to punch the shapes only allowing the most perfect cookies to be consumed by friends and family. Joanne was an incredibly charitable person and always sought after the good in people. Both Joanne and Johnny made it clear how much they loved their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren which made an impression on them all.
Joanne is survived by her daughter, Michelle (Greg) Reynolds. Her daughter in law, Charleen Young. Her grandchildren, Travis (Shannon) Young, Cody (Selena) Young, Megan (Drew) Jensen, Mallory (Tommy) Jensen, Samuel Reynolds, Madison Reynolds and Sadie Reynolds, Ryan (Gina) DeCol. Five great grandchildren, Kendall Young, Olivia Young, Tomas Young, Oscar Young and Lars Jensen.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John, her son J. Craig Young and her two sisters, Patsy Tannlund and Gloria Felis.
There will be a graveside service for family and friends, Saturday, July 29, 2023 at 10am, Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 Highland Drive Salt Lake City, Utah.
