November 19, 1963 – January 7, 2024
Jeffrey Craig Vincent, a beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend passed away quietly on Sunday, January 7, 2024. Jeff was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Marwede Vincent.
Jeff is survived by his wife, Patrice Prince Vincent, and their daughter, Victoria (Jason), their sons, Eric (Meggie), Nathan, and Jackson (presently serving in the Benin Cotonou Mission), and their grandchildren, Zachary, Rosalie, and Amelia, and his best fur buddy, Zeus. Jeff is also survived by his father, Craig, his sisters, Shauna, Suzanne, and Kristen, and his brother Steve, and in-laws, many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Jeff grew up in the Cottonwood area. As the oldest of five kids, he grew up keeping his siblings on their toes. He graduated from Cottonwood High School where he played basketball. Jeff loved sports and was an avid outdoorsman. As a child he dreamed of being a park ranger when he grew up. After purchasing his own canoe in high school, he continued following his childhood dream of spending as much time outside as possible; fly fishing, hunting, camping, and much more. He was articulate, and, in his younger years, enjoyed listening to, and calling in on radio talk shows, to share an opinion, or argue a point. He enjoyed a variety of jobs during his teenage years, including a summer living in a tent in the mountains east of Cedar City and working on a crew constructing a pipeline. Throughout all these jobs, he was able to develop a resilience that helped him throughout his career and his significant health challenges.
Jeff graduated from the University of Utah with a history degree. While enrolled there, he joined Sigma Chi Fraternity, where he served as consul, and made many life-long friends. “Big Vinny'' was loved and known by many at the University. Upon graduating, he pursued his successful career as a financial consultant and advisor.
In 1994, Jeff met his sweetheart, Patrice. The two of them were able to raise four beautiful children in their almost 30 years of marriage. Jeff was a great dad and was always there to support his kids in all of their activities. He greatly enjoyed coaching many of their little league sports teams. Jeff loved to take his family on “adventures”, which left not only his kids, but other family members and friends, with lifelong memories and funny stories they’ll never forget.
Jeff loved people, and people loved Jeff. At every stage of life, Jeff made friends, and his friends knew he would be there for them. Those around Jeff knew that nicknames were coming their way as he called many of the young kids around him “Milicent, Mildred, Gertrude, Mabel, Eunice, Spanky”, and countless others. Jeff certainly had an infectious sense of humor and a sarcastic wit. We will always be reminded of Jeff when we grab a slurpee from 7-eleven, munch on Chips Ahoy cookies, chew Extra gum, and even eat warm bread with butter on it. We hope whenever you hear “Amarillo By Morning”, “Lyin’ Eyes”, “Ring of Fire”, and “Saturday Night Fever”, you will think of Jeff.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was central in Jeff’s life. He was often found studying his scriptures throughout the house. As a young man, Jeff served in the Washington D.C. North Mission. Thereafter, he held many callings as he sought to serve the Lord. Jeff loved serving as a temple worker in the Salt Lake Temple. He particularly enjoyed serving several years as scoutmaster, then young men advisor, and especially loved their camping trips and outdoor adventures in southern Utah and on the West Desert. After serving many years as scoutmaster, he and Patrice were called to serve in a Burmese refugee branch in downtown Salt Lake City. He was able to make a lasting impact on many of the scouts and leaders in their branch program.
On Sunday, Jeff enjoyed the day being with his extended family, and loving the parade of friends, colleagues, fraternity brothers, and ward members who came to his room for a final farewell. At the end of the day he asked to meet with his siblings for a minute, to whom he simply said, “It’s been a great ride.” He passed peacefully surrounded by his family. Thanks for the truly great ride, Jeff, we can’t wait to see you again.
