Our beloved Jay Weldon Macbeth, 86, a man of integrity, moral character, love, and service, passed away at his home on Oct. 20, 2010. He was born on Dec. 29, 1923 in Price, Utah, the last child of Alexander and Esther Macbeth. Having lost both parents at a young age, he moved to Salt Lake City to live with an uncle. He attended Granite High School, where he met Elsie Durtschi, his future wife. He served for 3 years in the U.S. Navy during WWII, and returned to marry Elsie. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on Jun. 27, 1946. To this couple were born four children. He was employed for a time as a house painter, and later as the production manager at Hylon Koburn Chemical Company.
Jay served faithfully in the LDS Church as a clerk, stake missionary, bishopric counselor, young men president, quorum secretary, home teacher. He and Elsie also served together as Leadership Missionaries in the Eldridge Ward of the Granite Park Stake, as Temple Missionaries in the Orlando, Florida Temple, and for 12 years as Ordinance Workers in the Salt Lake Temple. He was completely devoted to his loving wife and family. He enjoyed taking care of his home, and loved helping others.
Jay was preceded in death by his four siblings, and by his daughter, Jaylynn (Thomas) Oldroyd. He is survived by his wife and sons, Dennis, David (Nadine), and Daryl (Linda). Jay and Elsie have 17 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Jay is dearly loved, and will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Oct. 25, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the Salt Lake Wilford Stake Center, 3080 S. 1765 E., Salt Lake City. There will be a viewing at the Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 S. Highland Drive, Sunday, Oct. 24, from 6 - 8 p.m., and at the Wilford Stake Center 10 - 10:45 a.m., prior to the service. Interment will be at the Wasatch Lawn Cemetery. The family wishes to thank all who have assisted with his care.
