James Erik Winn, age 23, died at home on July 26th, 2019, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born on March 8th, 1996 in Bountiful, UT to John Richard Winn and Matellena Marie (Gallivan) Winn. James received his High School Diploma in 2013, scoring in the top 3 percentile. Anybody who knew him would tell you how incredibly intelligent he was. When James wanted a computer he wasn’t content to just buy one, he built one from scratch. He wanted to learn as much as he could about the way people and the universe worked.
As a child, James was known to many as Basketball James/Jones. A basketball or any other ball for that matter was never far from his grasp, and became a passtime that he carried throughout his life. James was also fond of Star Wars as a kid and spent hours in his front yard doing solo light saber battles and tricks.
As an adult, James loved music, never seen without a headphone in his ear. He played the guitar every day and was more recently interested in learning the piano. Psychology was a passion of James’s, constantly fascinated by the brain. He was interested in the works of Nietzsche, and Jordan Peterson, to name a few.
Though he had a hard time showing it, James was incredibly thoughtful and loving. He never wanted to see anyone he loved sad. Always willing to lend a helping a hand when someone needed it. On many occasions he would step in and help his loved ones, always behind the scenes, and never once took credit for the good he had done.
James was preceded in death by his grandfather Travis Winn and his grandmother Mattie Gallivan. He is survived by his loving parents, two sisters, Rachel Elise Winn and Nicole Ashley Winn, a loving niece Margaret Hope Winn, and his grandparents Lillian Winn and Roy Gallivan, and an extensive extended family who love him dearly.
There will be a viewing on Wednesday, July 31st from 6-8pm at Wasatch Lawn Memorial and Mortuary. A graveside service will be held the following day, Thursday August 1st at 10am at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park. All are welcome.
We love you, James. Forever. Time is just an illusion.
