James Bruce Haslam, aged 75, passed away on Monday, May 27, 2024, at his home in Murray, Utah. He was born on March 18, 1949, in Salt Lake City, UT to Thomas Eldon Haslam and Betty Allred Haslam. He attended school at South High School, the University of Utah, and finished his education at Western Governors. He served faithfully in the Ireland, Belfast Mission.
On September 18, 1970, he married his high school sweetheart Sally Eckman in the Salt Lake Temple where they were sealed for time and all eternity. They have been friends since the age of 5. He spent the majority of his career as a manager for US West. He also enjoyed his time as a counselor at Eagle Gate College among other positions.
Together he and his sweetheart raised their 4 children in Murray, Utah, and were later blessed with 13 grandchildren who are the light of his life. He was a sports fanatic. He was an avid softball player, and later spent his time coaching his children in various sports. He could often be found on the sidelines of his children's and grandchildren's sporting events, sometimes being ejected by the referees. He loved watching BYU athletics, the Utah Jazz, and the old Golden Eagles Hockey team. He very much enjoyed participating in the Arts, performing with his family at the Promised Valley Playhouse, traveling the western states with Saturday’s Warrior, and later watching his grandchildren doing the same.
He had a green thumb. He was often working in the yard creating beautiful flower and vegetable gardens, even winning the Murray Beautification Award. He spent a lot of time in his woodshop creating beautiful pieces of work to paint and display.
He was a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many positions. But what he loved the most was serving as the Gospel Doctrine Instructor. He loved researching and learning about the Gospel. He was known for his unwavering faith, kindness, and dedication to his family and community. He often sought solace in the scriptures and conference talks.
He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and was loved equally in return by all those who knew him. He will be greatly missed until we meet again.
He is survived by his loving wife Sally (Haslam), His children Jeremy (Kristin) Haslam, Joshua (Heidi) Haslam, Jessica (Jared) Goddard, and Jason (Madison) Haslam.
