Beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, Friend and Neighbor was born on April 15th 1933 in Ogden, Utah to Manol (Mike) Hazis and Liberty (Mitchellog) Hazis. Our Mother passed away peacefully at the age of 90 in her daughter’s home on March 5th, 2024.
Both parents emigrated from Greece, in the early 1900’s. Mom was very proud of her heritage, she spoke the Greek language fluently with her parents 90% of the time. She was the oldest of five children and often interpreted for her parents. Her youngest sister Lola would often say “Helen was always there for me like a 2nd Mother and willing to help me with anything I needed”. Her Mother our grandma was her best friend and was always willing to be there whenever Mom needed anything. Her father was a farmer and most everything he cooked was from his own garden. Mom missed his dolmade’s but looked forward to those from the Greek Festival every year.
Mom married her childhood sweetheart Ronald Marr Hansen on May 8th, 1951. At a very young age Mom became a mother to her 1st child Kathy Lee Hansen, three years later her 2nd child was born Michael William Hansen her 1st son then five years passed, and she had her 2nd son Todd Ronald Hansen (Terri), approximately three years later Janet Lynn Murphy her 2nd daughter was born and just over 3 years later her 3rd daughter and final child Heidi Marie Hultquist was born. Family always came first with Mom, and she was a devoted Mother and Wife.
Mom had six grandchildren, Lisa Michelle Napier, Justin Todd Hansen (Heather), Eleni Kay Murphy, TJ Bradford Hultquist (Katie), Demi Marie Hultquist and Ty Ron Leon Hultquist. Four great grandchildren, Meridian Manuela Hansen, Aubrie Charlene Napier, Ariya Reay Hansen and baby boy Alexander Todd Hansen. Mom shared a very special bond with her many nieces and nephews that showed her love and support her whole life.
Mom is survived by four children, two brothers, Steve Hazis, Tony Hazis (Althea), and one sister Lola Lees. Preceded in death by both Parents, Husband, Sister Cleo, oldest Daughter, Mother and Father-in-law, brothers-in-law Gary Lees and Jack Quigley, sister-in-law Bonnie May Quigley, cousin Sophie Fotes and Aunt Lola Harlabakis.
Mom was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She had a special relationship with neighbors Steve and Eileen Latimer who was her Bishop and block teacher.
Mom enjoyed watching football, golf, Utah Jazz, Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy and Hoarders. She loved to attend family events and was always the best at playing games and winning prizes. She loved Mexican food, See’s chocolates, caramels and vanilla ice cream with thinly sliced bananas to get her potassium in.
Mom was always so patient, kind, selfless, caring, sweet and the very best care giver to so many during her lifetime. She loved to dance, listen to good music and go to the Utah State Fair Grounds (Fairpark) occasionally when she was younger for a concert. Her carefree, easy-going personality made it easy for everyone to love her.
A very special thank you to our sister Janet for caring for our mother for many years. They shared a special mother/daughter bond like Mutt and Jeff. Also, Mom’s granddaughter Eleni (Ellie) who was named after Mom for all the love and support that she showed her grandma. A special thank you to Moms dearest childhood friend Leone Walton who has known her for over 80 years and kept in touch with her sharing stories and memories all this time as well as always remembering each other’s birthdays, Peck Striping for allowing Heidi to work from home part time while caring for her mother in her last days making sure she was comfortable, peaceful, happy and laughing with friends and family, Holy Cross Hospital, Aspen Ridge West Transitional Rehab, Highland Care, and Solstice.
