She was born on December 2, 1934 in Mt. Pleasant, Utah to Henry Otto and Iva Miller Johansen. She was the only girl with four older brothers who doted, teased and protected her. She grew up a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Her family owned the town grocery store ‘Johansen Brothers’. She treasured her memories working there in her youth. Her children have many fond memories of ‘the store’.
She held many church positions throughout her life, including Relief Society President and her favorite calling which was in the Stake Primary Presidency where she made lifelong friends.
She moved to Salt Lake City after graduating from North Sanpete High School. She got a job right away at Prudential Insurance Company. She lived with girlfriends on ‘M’ Street in the Avenues. It was at this time in June 1956 when she met her eternal sweetheart, Ralph Bruce Schow.
They were married and sealed on December 27, 1956 in the Manti Temple.
They built their home in Mount Olympus Cove and moved in on July 4, 1958. This is where they created a home where the treasures were in the little things that created cherished memories, where her family felt safe, secure and loved. Their home was a place of love, laughter and many traditions … her famous caramel corn, pecan rolls, lemon cake and mother goose popcorn (butter the size of an egg). She was a wonderful cook and many people were blessed to be the recipients of her delicious meals.
Together they started Bruce Plumbing and Heating Company over 60 years ago which is still in business today.
They had 4 children, Teresa Coons (Stephen), Daniel Bruce Schow, Kayanne Swenson (Randy), Joel Edward Schow (deceased). They have 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
She loves the gospel of Jesus Christ and more than anything she wants her family to know of her testimony. In her own words she said ‘I would like to bare my testimony that this is the true Church, that our elder brother, Jesus Christ is our Redeemer who loves us so much that He gave His life for us.’
She lived her life with love, dignity, beauty and grace.
She truly endured to the end.
We are blessed as a family to have her example to carry on through the generations to come.
We would like to thank the many wonderful angels at Spring Gardens Senior Living Holladay who so lovingly have cared for our parents.
To honor Glenda’s wishes, her family will have a private memorial, followed by a dedication of the grave at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park on Sunday, May 19, 2024.
