Our beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, friend and neighbor, Glen E. C. Allen passed from this earth on November 22, 2015 into the loving arms of his Heavenly Father and a joyful reunion with his eternal sweetheart, Dorothy.
Dad was born February 15, 1920 in Salt Lake City, a son of Harold Edson and Viola Hansen Allen. He was reared and educated in S.L.C and graduated from West High School in the class of 1937. Dad played a clarinet in West High's R.O.T.C marching band and the violin with the High School orchestra.
On July 18, 1950, Dad married Dorothy Charlotte Eby. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake L.D.S. Temple. He was a member of The L.D.S. Church and served in the following assignments: Secretary of Elders Quorum; Secretary-Treasurer High Priest Groups; First Counselor in the Sunday School Presidency and as a Home Teacher.
Dad enlisted in the U.S. Navy on Dec. 30, 1941 and was Honorably Discharged April 12, 1945. (During World War II). Assigned as Secretary to Chief of Staff (Commander of Western Sea Frontier, San Francisco, Calif.) His rank during this period was Petty Officer First Class.
Employed by the S.L.C. Police Department for a period of Forty years. He was Administrative Assistant to eight different Chiefs of Police. Also served as Director of Personnel Management prior to retirement. He was recipient of the Police Distinguished Service Medal. Dad served as Treasurer and Director of the S.L. Police Credit Union. Also served for seventeen years as Secretary of the Police Mutual Aid Association.
Dad was a member of the following organizations: BPDE #85 (Elks Lodge); International Footprinter Association IFA Chapter No. 3; Life member (R.O.A.) Reserve Officer Association; Life member Military Officers Association of America (MOAA); American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) American Legion (Holladay Post 71). Dad was a member of the U.S. Army Reserve as a Chief Warrant Officer for 34 years. He was recipient of the Meritorious Service Medal and The Army Commendation Medal.
Dad was thoughtful and considerate and will be remembered by family and friends as a generous man who took pride in his home. His caring and compassionate interest in others especially the loving care of his eternal companion, reflected his tenderness of heart. While we will miss his keen sense of humor, we take comfort in the joyous reunion taking place with his loved ones preceding him.
Dad is survived by daughters Carol Bytheway (Ray), Christine Layton (Gary); sisters Marie Ulrich and Jewel Wenerstrom. Also survived by 1 Granddaughter, 3 Grandsons; 10 Great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceding him in death was his Eternal sweetheart, Dorothy; Grandson Gary Bytheway; Granddaughter Brenda Younger; two infant sons (at Birth); brother-in-law Jack Wenerstrom. Brother-in-law Bud Ulrich.

Funeral Services will be held Dec. 1, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn Memorial, 3401 South Highland Drive, Salt Lake City, UT 84106. There will be a viewing preceding the funeral at 12:45 p.m.
