Gaylene’s special love was for her family. She watched over them and served them like a mother hen tending her chicks. The love they have for one another is truly a treasure.
Gaylene was a very hard worker, and was kind and giving to a fault. She reached out with grace and friendship to all those about her. She spent much of her time writing notes and letters that uplifted and strengthened those who needed her love and faith, continually encouraging them to trust in their ability to endure their trials and hardships. She often surprised total strangers with gentle compliments about how they looked or conducted themselves; but she was a tiger when there was a reason to defend her cubs, or her faith. The downtrodden and handicapped received her special attention.
To know Gaylene was to love her. She was a beautiful woman and loved beauty in everything. She believed that her life, her home, and the way she dressed and presented herself should be beautiful; not for the glory of it but because she felt that the world is better if we always look our best. She always hoped that others would recognize her motives and not become resentful.
Gaylene was a skilled musician and loved to play the piano. She loved to teach her piano students as they prayed together, played together, and shared their lives. She touched each one in a very special way. Her students are still treasured as her special friends.
She was instrumental in having a sculpture of Aurelia Spencer Rogers, her great grandmother and the founder of the Primary, donated to the General Primary Association of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; with the hope that her contribution to the children of the Church would always be remembered.
At the time of her death she was engaged to be married to Robert Fitt. They will be sealed in the temple by proxy, at a later time.
Gaylene is survived by her five children: Danne Buchanan (Anne), Lisa Buchanan, Laura Buchanan, Linda Messer, Louise Holt (Owen), her very special Heather who she was devoted to and loved “forever”, and her 16 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren.
One of her last wishes was that she have a small, intimate funeral service.
In lieu of flowers, a contribution may be made to TKJ Charities, 2413 Royal Lane, Sandy, Utah 84093, who take such great care of Heather.
