On November 18, 2022, our beloved father and grandfather, Floyd H. Humphrey (Cox), passed from this earth and returned to his heavenly parents and into the arms of his many loved ones and family that have passed before him. Floyd's twin brother, Freddie, who preceded him in death at the age of 2, took Floyd's hand to guide him the way into heaven, just as Floyd always believed would happen.
Floyd was born, along with his twin brother, Freddie, on July 18, 1926, to Lorene and Walter Humphrey (Cox) in Murray, Utah.
He was raised in Copperton, Utah by his grandmother Elizabeth (Nana) and step-grandfather Fred Cox. He obtained the rank of Eagle Scout while attending Bingham High School. He worked at Kennecott Bingham Canyon mine as a teenager and young man. He attended the University of Utah, graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in Metallurgical Engineering. Floyd also served in U.S. Army Air Corps during the end of WWII.
Floyd was married to Beverly Norene Hoehner, and though they later divorced, they maintained a friendly relationship throughout their lives.
He was a member of the LDS church and served in the St. George Temple.
Dad was an avid hiker, loved to golf and loved to fish. His favorite places were the remote areas and deserts of Southern Utah and the mountains. He loved animals, especially dogs, but he hated snakes.
Dad was the most generous, loving person we knew, always willing to give money and his time to someone in need. His answer was "Be Kind" when asked what advice he would pass on to others. He truly was "one of the good ones" as many have described him. His sense of humor was unmatched, always teasing the grandchildren and entertaining them with his stories, some true, some not. He was affectionately known as "Grandpa Yo" and "Grandpa Hi Y'all" to his grandchildren. He made every grandchild feel special, with each one knowing they were his favorite.
Floyd is survived by his children, Robert Humphrey (Jeri), Steven Humphrey and Diane Weaver (Curt); 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved sister Mary; his little pal, twin brother Freddie; and a great-granddaughter, Quinn.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the many healthcare professionals that helped Dad in the last few weeks of his life. We're grateful to the nurses and doctors at Alta View Hospital for their compassionate care. A special thank you to Intermountain Homecare and Hospice caregivers in their support in addressing our father's needs in his final days: namely Bridgette, Veronica, Gretchen, and Sheila.
Per Dad's request, there will be a small private family viewing and graveside service on Friday, November 25, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, located at 3401 South Highland Drive. Immediately following the viewing, a graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the same location. Interment at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
