E. Duane Larson was born the second child of the late Mr. Elmer Oleah Larson and Elizabeth Mary Mawson on 2 February 1927. As a young child, Duane’s Sister Lorraine called him “Buddy,” and his lifelong nickname Bud stuck with him the rest of his 94-years.
Bud attended Granite High School, but in December of his Junior year in 1944, he joined the Navy. He served for 34 months working primarily as an ETM (Electronics Technician), where he stood watch on the radar and looked after the radar equipment.
At the beginning of the Korean War, Bud was hired at Hill Field Air Force Base to work on B-29’s. After 19 months he grew tired of the work, and began moving around taking some small time jobs. After some time, his father grew tired of him “bumming around,” so he set up Bud with a job as an electrician for a company in Salt Lake City. Bud enjoyed this career for the next 28 years. In 1981, he retired, but stayed busy managing investment properties.
Fishing was one of Bud’s favorite past times. He enjoyed talking about his fishing experiences, but loved even more to hear a good fishing story. He enjoyed hearing stories of his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren, and sharing his Navy experiences.
Bud passed away in his Salt Lake home, on November 10, 2021. He was preceded in death by his three siblings: Lorraine Elisabeth (Paul) Nigh, Reta Rose (Dick) Nelson, and Verl Larson. Bud is survived by his daughter Sally McBride, 6 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and his Sister-in-law Rosemary (Verl) Larson.
We would like to thank all of Bud’s good neighbors, as well as Josh Putman for his service, visitors from Right at Home and Anne Elwood from Visiting Angels; and a very special thanks to Dignity Hospice—we feel very fortunate that Bud received the very best care from them, including Jon (the owner), the Chaplin Justin, Rosa (Bud’s CNA), Nickson and Jonathan (his Nurses), and Dr. Bartholomew.
Services will be held at Wasatch Lawn Saturday, November 20, 2021. Viewing 10:00-10:45 A.M. Funeral 11:00 A.M.
