Dorothy Jean Margrave, 89, of Salt Lake City, Utah, passed away January 15, 2013, in Lynnwood, Washington.
Dorothy was born in Boise, Idaho on February 01, 1923, to Carl Frederick Springman and Nora Serena Smart. She grew up in Salt Lake City and graduated from East High School in 1940. She graduated from the LDS Business College and worked in Salt Lake City business offices for several years which included the Intermountain Medical Clinic for eight doctors, the Pacific Life Insurance Company, and for the J.C. Penney District Manager. She was a member of the USO and met her husband Leland Roy Margrave, who was in the U.S. Army, through mutual friends at a USO dance in Salt Lake City. They were married on December 05, 1945, in Santa Ana, California. In civilian life, Roy managed J.C. Penney stores in Washington, Idaho, and Oregon, and Dorothy often helped. They were active in the Methodist church. Dorothy was a homemaker devoted to raising her four children; an artist who enjoyed oil painting and crafting dolls; was an avid reader of biographies and history; and loved the outdoors.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Carl in 1987 and Nora in 1979, and her husband, Roy in 1994. She is survived by her sister Marjorie Carol (Dee Richard) Woolley of Salt Lake City, UT; daughter Carol Ann (Russell) Gripp of Woodinville, WA; three sons, Leland Craig (Barbara Cook) of Kearns, UT, Gary Frank (Joan Kendrick) of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and Jeffery Carl of Woodinville, WA; five grandchildren Celia, Janet, David, Catherine, and Eric; nine great grandchildren; and nephews, Dee Richard (Anne Meilstrup) Woolley, Jr. of Farmington, UT and Michael John (Debra Nebeker) Woolley, of American Fork, UT.
Visitation will be held at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 Highland Drive, Salt Lake City, UT, on January 25, 2013, at 2:00 pm, followed by a graveside service at 3:00 pm.
