1923-2010
Dorothy Glaittli Homer, 87, loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister passed away in Salt Lake City on September 13, 2010. She was born January 16, 1923 in Salt Lake City, Utah to George and Martha Glaittli. She spent her childhood in the Sugarhouse area of Salt Lake City, growing up with three wonderful brothers. She graduated from South High School.
She began working at Bennett Ford where she met and married Donald S. Homer her sweetheart of 63 years. They were married in 1948, and later their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. Shortly after their marriage they moved to Idaho Falls and later moved back to Salt Lake City where they raised their three children in the Holladay area. Don preceded her in death in March of 2006. We are glad that they can be together again.
Dorothy was a gentle, loving mother who devoted her time and talents to her family and church callings. She enjoyed being a homemaker and was talented in sewing, quilting, and was an amazing cook. She loved her family with all her heart. She was active in the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints all her life, holding many callings in the Relief Society and Primary organizations.
Dorothy worked many years for the Granite School District as a secretary at Sherman Elementary School and Morningside Elementary. She enjoyed so much the people she worked with. After retiring she volunteered for many years at Cottonwood Hospital serving others. The family would like to thank the many caregivers at Brighten Gardens for the kind and loving care they gave our mom during her four years there.
She is survived by her children, Linda (Tom) Alder, Salt Lake City, Don (Marjann) Homer, Flower Mound, Texas, and Janet (Phillip) Solomon, St. George, Utah, Her three brothers George, Don and Ray Glaittli, and her seven wonderful grandchildren, Trenton (Heather), Ashley, and Zach Homer, Nick Alder, Staci, Chad, and Laura Solomon. It is hard to say good bye but we know we will say hello again. We love you, Mom.
