Colleen was born on March 9th, 1964 to Elden and Mary Mecham in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was the third of four children. Colleen graduated from Highland High School in 1982. After high school, Colleen attended college and worked at Blue Cross Blue Shield. She also graduated from hairstyling school and held various office jobs over the years. Her favorite job was being a companion and full-time caregiver to her mother, Mary. Colleen’s siblings are forever grateful for the sacrifices she made taking care of their mother.
Colleen was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served an honorable full-time mission to the Jacksonville Florida Mission. She loved her mission and spoke fondly of the experiences she had and the individuals she met while serving there. Colleen served as a volunteer in the cafeteria at the Salt Lake LDS Temple alongside her mother. She had a strong testimony of Jesus Christ that she shared at any opportunity she could. She served faithfully in various callings including helping to prepare meals for many funerals.
Colleen is survived by her mother Mary Warr Mecham, sisters Marie (Brent) Baxter, Carolyn (Larry) Dietrick and brother Robert (Tammy) Mecham, nine nieces and nephews as well as several grandnieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her father Elden Hugh Mecham, grandparents Morrell and Phylis Warr, Arlin and Ada Mecham.
Colleen has requested a closed casket. Family and friends are welcome to call the evening of Thursday May 12 from 6:30 – 8:00 pm at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 S. Highland Drive Salt Lake City, Utah. Funeral services will be held Friday May 13 at 10:00 am at the Mountain View 1st Ward building, 1400 S. 1900 E. Salt Lake City, Utah. There will be no viewing prior to the funeral. Interment will take place at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
Our family would like to thank all of the medical professionals, nurses, and CNAs who assisted in the care of Colleen. We are especially grateful to the staff and hospice professionals who attended to Colleen at The Haven at Sky Mountain in her final days. Thank you for making a special effort to provide excellent care and wonderful accommodations on short notice.
Our family sincerely appreciates the friends, neighbors, and ward members who provided meals, rides to doctor appointments, and other compassionate service to Colleen and our family during this difficult time.
