Our perfect wife, wonderful daughter and sister, and good friend, Christine Peterson Engel, slipped away on September 07, 2021, at the young age of 68. She was known for possessing unending courage and strength after battling juvenile diabetes from the age of 11. She was a resilient, patient, and a kind soul and will be missed. Chris was welcomed into the home of Harry Andrew (Bud) and Barbara Stenzel Peterson much to the delight of her older brother Andy. She was part of a lively family of five siblings – Andy, Jenny, Jodie, Don and Margaret. Twenty years ago, her amazing sister, Jodie, donated a kidney to Chris whom the two aptly named “Jodney.” The gift allowed Chris to continue to live a full and happy life. Chris married Jerren (Herk) Engel on December 29, 1978. The two met when Herk was working at a gas station and would admire her blue Ford convertible. Herk knew a beauty when he saw one! Chris and Herk loved being together for nearly 43 years of marriage. Two of Chris’ fun nicknames were Fish and Monkey Girl. Chris worked at various businesses as an accountant and joined the family refrigeration business (Peterson’s Sales and Service and NEC) in 1983 where she filled many important positions. She always enjoyed a challenge, so even after retirement, she could be seen helping in the office. Chris and Margaret became good friends at work and would enjoy getting their hair done at the same time. Chris was an avid reader of all genres. She and her mother, Barbara, would spend hours sharing books and discussing them. She was artistic and delighted in playing the piano, painting, and cross stitching. She is survived by her husband, mother, and four siblings. Her father, sister Jenny, mother-in-law Hendrika (Babe) Deshiro, father-in-law, Harry Engel, Jr. and brother-in-law Garroll (Ben) Engel preceded her in death.
A graveside celebration of Chris’ life will be held at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park at 11:00 a.m. for family and close friends. Please wear a mask to keep everyone safe. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to The National Kidney Foundation or The American Diabetes Association.
