Carol June Aldous Petersen passed away July 29, 2018 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was born April 4, 1938 in Salt Lake City, to Heber Frost and June Orrock Aldous. She graduated from East High School, and attended the University of Utah before meeting her future husband, Stanford Burke Petersen. They wed in the Salt Lake Temple September 11, 1957 and were the parents of seven children.
Before the ink was dry on their marriage certificate, Carol and Stan were off on an adventure to attend school at Mexico City College. Always the good sport, she then accompanied him on trips to South and Central America, Europe, the South Pacific, the Holy Land, various cruises, as well as many family cross country road trips in motor homes and vans. One of those vans led to an opportunity for Carol and Stan to travel to Hollywood to film a commercial for Chrysler/Dodge, with former baseball player and Today cohost Joe Garagiola, a job for which they were required to join the Screen Actors Guild.
Carol loved all things Disney. She was one of the first to visit Disneyland when it opened in 1955, and she made countless trips there in future years with her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed her many family trips to Sun Valley, Idaho, and Carlsbad, California.
She will be remembered for her love of reading, arts and crafts, hippos, her collection of moustache cups and Cabbage Patch Kids, her French Toast, lunches at the Tiffin Room and Gardner Village, trips to Build-a-Bear and Dig It with the grandkids, the Far Side cartoon, and Hawaiian Luaus in the backyard with the Petersen Hillbillies.
She will also be remembered for her faithful service in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, especially her work in the Salt Lake Temple, Relief Society Enrichment Leader, Den Mother in the Scouting program, and as Primary President in the Valley View 5th ward, where she lived for 57 years. Most of all, we will not forget her unique sense of humor, positive attitude, kind and gentle disposition, and her giving of unconditional love.
She is survived by her husband, Stan, her children, Lisa Carol (Larry Childs), Stanford Burke, Jr. (Pete), Lori Susan (Steve Spurrier), Eric David (Sabrina), Lindsi Ann (Zach Wiseman), and Luci Jane (Tyler Sorenson), as well as 18 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Harold Eugene and Richard Allen Aldous, and her son, Douglas Aldous, with whom she has undoubtedly had a joyous reunion.
A viewing will be held Friday evening, August 3, 2018 from 6-8 PM at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 S Highland Drive, SLC, UT. Her funeral service will begin Saturday August 4, 2018 at 11 AM at the Valley View 5th Ward, 2245 East 3900 South, SLC, UT. Prior to the service, family and friends are invited to gather beginning at 9:45 AM.
