Betty was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on June 24, 1924 to Adelaide and John Holmes. She grew-up in a family of 11 having 4 brothers and 7 sisters. All but one, her youngest brother, proceeded her in death. She loved her parents and her brothers and sisters dearly.
She found and married the love of her life, Wilford Elmer Christensen, after he returned from an LDS Mission, and they were married in the Salt Lake Temple on January 28, 1944. They had been married for 45 wonderful years when Wilford passed away suddenly on March 17, 1989.
Betty was the mother of 8 children but lost 2 in early infancy. Betty always had a beautiful warm smile but carried a vacancy in her heart her whole life for those 2 lost sons; Steven Paul and Lynn Alan. Betty also lost her oldest son Brent just a few years ago. Betty's 6 children are; Karalee (Bob Harwood), Wilford Brent (Charolet), David Mark(Karen), Ronald Dale(Lily), Perry Glen(Kimberly), and Wendy Ann(Wade Bowles.) Betty has 18 grand kids and 31 great grand kids who she adored passionately, never forgetting any of their birthdays or the special events in their lives. She loved them all so much.
Betty made lasting and enduring friendships during her life many going all the way back to her early school days. "The Club" was a very very special group of friends who met together often for outings and luncheons for decades! Now that Betty is gone only one club member is left.
One of the Greatest times in her life was serving an LDS Mission with Wilford to the people of India to proclaim the name of Jesus Christ. They were richly blessed by these wonderful people, many of which visited America afterwards just to pay them a visit. Betty served faithfully her entire life in Callings for the LDS Church which she considered a sacred honor.
We have all been blessed beyond any measure having had such a wonderful mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend who filled all our lives with love, joy, wisdom, and light right up until the moment she left us. Betty somehow made all our hearts beat louder and made our voices softer. She showed us that beauty and truth resides in the realm of simplicity, and that what things are really the most important are not so complicated they go over our heads but so so simple that it all goes under our heads.
We will honor Betty's beautiful life on Saturday August 25, 2018 at the Westland 2nd Ward, 7171 So. 2700 W. West Jordan, UT, at 11:00 AM. A viewing will be at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley, 1007 W. South Jordan Parkway (10600 So.) South Jordan, UT, Friday evening from 6:30-8:00 PM. Friends may also visit on Saturday from 10:00-10:30 AM prior to the funeral at Westland 2nd Ward.
A deep appreciation and gratitude goes out to those special people of Intermountain Hospice, and also to Betty's daughter Wendy and special daughter-in-law Charolet for the heroic love and care they gave to Betty the last 7 months of her life.
