Barbara Bank

Born June 3, 1949, to Emma Dolowitz, Barbara lived a life filled with love, generosity, and purpose.

Barbara attended William Penn Elementary, Evergreen Junior High School, Olympus High School, and the University of Utah. Her teenage years were marked by her dedication to community involvement, serving as president of both B’nai Brith Girls and JCC Teens. She was confirmed at Congregation Kol Ami, a community that remained close to her heart throughout her life.

On June 1, 1969, Barbara married her lifelong love, Barry R. Bank, celebrating 55 wonderful years together before his passing exactly four months prior to hers. Their marriage was a testament to deep love and partnership, a bond that extended to their three daughters and five grandchildren.

Barbara spent many years working alongside Barry at their jewelry store, where she introduced a fine gifts section that became a successful addition. She later worked as the facilities manager at the Salt Lake Jewish Community Center, contributing to her community with dedication and care. Barbara then spent many years working at the Salt Lake County Jail library. An avid reader herself, she recommended and delivered books to inmates, fostering their love of reading and personal growth. More recently, she worked at the Red Balloon toy store, where she delighted in helping parents and grandparents pick out the perfect toys for children.

Known for her loving and nurturing spirit, Barbara found immense joy in caring for her family. She delighted in preparing meals, surprising loved ones with thoughtful gifts, and creating a home filled with warmth and kindness.

Barbara was preceded in death by her mother, Emma; her sister, Carole Tucker; and her beloved husband, Barry. She is survived by her daughters, Elys Bank, Stacey Bank (Ryan Van Voast), and Stephanie Bank; her grandchildren, Nathan Mond, Max Olson, Mia Olson, Nessa Van Voast, and Cora Van Voast; and her sister-in-law and bestie Karen Karsh.

To honor Barbara and Barry's enduring legacy of compassion and advocacy for others, the family has established the Barry and Barbara Bank Endowed Scholarship Fund at the University of Utah's College of Social Work. This fund will support students working toward careers dedicated to helping others, reflecting the values Barbara and Barry held dear.

Graveside service will be held at B’nai Israel Cemetery on Sunday December 15th at 2:00 pm (1021 4th Avenue).

Barbara's memory will live on through her family, her community, and the countless lives she touched with her kindness and generosity.
