Ann Liacopoulos (Annie), our beautiful beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend, departed from her earthly life on Saturday, February 24 2018. Her mortal sojourn ended in her home, surrounded by her loving family. She leaves behind her incessant struggle with age and arthritis to frolic in a happy pain-free place.
Ann was born March 14, 1935, in the coal town of Hiawatha, Utah, to Mike and Francis (Bader) Trulos. She and her big brother George were primarily raised in nearby Price, UT, in the loving household of Mary "Ma" Sooklaris. She loved Price and her Greek Orthodox community, and especially enjoyed her young adult years working as a dental assistant in the office of Dr. Olivetto.
She married Tom Liacopoulos on July 23, 1961. Ann and Tom took good care of each other through the long marriage, and he nursed her through the years of illness until her last winter day. They were together constantly during her final years and Dad insisted on being Mom's primary caregiver even in the final difficult months. He was committed to keeping mom in her own home as she wanted, and our family very much appreciates dad's constant care and affection.
Annie was scrappy, fiery, compassionate, irreverent, and REALLY funny. These qualities helped her overcome many hardships, including polio that should have left her crippled in an iron lung, the constant pain of rheumatoid arthritis, and the many indignities of dementia. She was a great story-teller, and made a mean pot of "sheepherder's coffee". She loved children and animals and always wanted to be a great mother; when motherhood arrived Mom poured her heart and soul into it.
Mom filled our days with play, games, and stories. Her day started with a spotless house cleaning, scrubbing sinks, toilets and vacuuming floors... EVERY single day! We kids assumed that Clorox and Lysol were some kind of perfume. Then came the fun: Winter days sledding at Sugarhouse Park, frequent library trips, and topping off our summer wading pool with boiling water to keep it warm. The house became the defacto daycare center of the neighborhood as kids visited for Mom's kool-aid, sandwiches, and popsicles. Nobody left Mom's house hungry, as tea, pastries, and food flowed freely.
Ann is survived by her husband Tom, her three children, Kris (Mona), Peter and Paul; her granddaughter Alexis; numerous nieces and nephews in California, Colorado and Greece; and her kitty Blackie. Alexis brought much joy to Mom, and was always a bright spot in "yia-yia's" life. Ann was preceded in death by her parents, all of her siblings, and her sweet kitty Sparky. The kids would like to thank Andrea and Russell Smith for the love and support you’ve always given Mom and Dad. Thanks to Dr's. Kuncle and Edwards for Mom's fine medical care through the years. Finally, thanks to Wendy Selmos, for her wonderful and loving hospice nursing in Mom's last days.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, March 2nd 2018 at Prophet Elias Greek Orthodox Church. A 10:00 AM viewing will immediately precede the service. Internment at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers please consider donations to the Greek Orthodox Church or Utah Animal Adoption Center.
May her memory be eternal.
