Born July 6, 1934, the daughter of Dr. Reed and Lovina Harrow, Adrienne married Kenneth E. Coombs Jr. in the Salt Lake City Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in 1958. She is survived by her husband, her three children, Carol Lynne (Dr. Randy Thurgood), Reed (Julie West), and Tony (Hillary Haslam), 10 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and her dear niece, Debi Groves.
A graveside service for family will be held Saturday, August 15, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park. The service will be streamed live on Zoom at the following link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/6705111284
After graduating from East High school, Adrienne attended the University of Utah, where she was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. In addition, she was first attendant to Miss University of Utah and sang in a female quartet that won the University Quartet Festival three years in a row.
Education, learning, and teaching were of most importance to Adrienne. After receiving her Bachelor’s degree in Education, she taught kindergarten and 5th grade in Granite School District. She also received her certificate in Library Science and worked as a school librarian. She wrote a booklet she titled, “What Shall I Read to My Children?” The booklet listed the books Adrienne thought were important for 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students. It was so in demand by parents that the district had it printed and sent to all the schools in the district.
Friends were very dear to Adrienne, and she retained friendships from her early childhood, school days, neighborhoods, and church. She started having a “friends” Christmas party while in high school, and she continued it for 63 years. Those who came said it was the perfect start to the Christmas season.
Adrienne had a beautiful singing voice. She performed many solos, sang and acted in musical plays, and performed in many choirs, including The Utah Symphony Chorus.
One of the highlights of Adrienne’s life was being a member of the Utah Symphony Guild, serving as president in 1996. She loved the guild members, meeting the orchestra members, and being asked to serve on different committees by the Symphony Board of Directors.
Adrienne loved her Savior and being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She had many talents and used them to serve in many capacities in the church, including being a member of the Young Women’s General Board. She and her husband served in the Indianapolis, Indiana Mission and as church service missionaries in Salt Lake City.
Some of Adrienne’s favorite memories were made vacationing with her family in Sun Valley, Lake Powell, Mazatlán, and going to Disneyland with her grandchildren. She always looked forward to Sunday dinners, where she would serve her specialty, pot roast. In addition to her own children and grandchildren, Adrienne loved Ken’s 9 brothers and sisters and extended family as if they were her own. She felt very blessed to be a part of this big family.
When Adrienne’s health declined there were many special people who gave great care and help, including Tiala Tupola, Adrienne’s personal care giver for over six years, and Canyon Hospice, especially Janet, Mikey, Ruth, Teresa and her special nurse, Jennifer. The family would also like to acknowledge The Ridge Cottonwood’s workers. We couldn’t have asked for better care and friends. Adrienne and Ken were blessed to be able to move from The Ridge into Carol Lynne and Randy’s home and be surrounded by family for the past two weeks before her passing.
The family would like to thank everyone and anyone who made Adrienne happy.
A replay of the service will also be available to view after 2:00 pm Saturday at www.facebook.com\wasatchlawnmemorial.
