REEKES, Thomas Edward, age 85, of Powhatan, passed away Wednesday, August 25, 2010. He was preceded in death by his parents, Buddie and Maggie Reekes. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Clarine Wilkinson Reekes; his daughters, Patti Reekes Cole and Rhonda Reekes Cafazza (John); granddaughters, Kimberly Cole Goff (Patrick), Anna Cafazza McChesney (Greg) and Sarah Cafazza; his great-grandson, Camden Thomas McChesney; and extended family and friends. Tommy was a graduate of John Marshall High School. He served in the Pacific Theatre during WWII after enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps and was an Iwo Jima survivor. He retired from Bell Atlantic after 44 years of service and was founder, past president and life member of Manchester Volunteer Rescue Squad since 1954, a 32nd degree Mason and an active member and past commander of the American Legion Post 208 in Powhatan. Tommy was an active volunteer in the Powhatan community and was a member of Powhatan United Methodist Church. His remains rest at the Huguenot Chapel of Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Road, where the family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday (today), and where funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either the Powhatan Volunteer Rescue Squad, Manchester Volunteer Rescue Squad or Powhatan United Methodist Church.
