Stewart Edward Farrar, loving husband and father of Richmond, VA, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2018. He was born on December 23, 1946, in Luray, VA, to Harry Stewart Farrar and Inez Josephine Farrar, née Short, who preceded him in death. He was a dedicated family man who loved the outdoors, and he was very active in his church. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa and with honors from the University of Virginia in 1969. While in college, he was a member of the Army ROTC; he later served as a military policeman in the Army. Following graduation from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1972, he set up a private law practice in Luray. In July 1979, he moved to Richmond, VA, to join the State Corporation Commission, where he served 21 years in various positions of responsibility, culminating in the position of Solicitor General. After retiring from his work for the Commonwealth of Virginia in 2000, he consulted for multiple regulatory utilities until his illness. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Carol Dovel Farrar; daughter, Molly Kathleen Farrar; and many extended family members and friends. The family would like to thank everyone who ensured Stewart received exceptional care and compassion during the past two years. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, July 14, 2018, at Salisbury Presbyterian Church, 13621 W. Salisbury Road, Midlothian, VA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Salisbury Presbyterian Church.
