Roy "Wayne" Gaskill, 74, of Richmond, Virginia passed away September 24, 2019. He was preceded in death by his father, William Frank Gaskill and is survived by his lifetime sweetheart and wife, Susan Whitaker Gaskill and mother, Mary Dunn Gaskill.
He grew up in Newport News, attended Magruder School, and was active in Cub and Boy Scouts and sports. He was a 1963 graduate of Newport News High School where he was involved and excelled in sports from an early age including baseball, basketball and football. He was a graduate of Fork Union Military Academy where he also fine tuned his academic and football skills. He attended the University of Richmond and then transferred to the University of Alabama where be received a BS and his Army ROTC commission, serving in Military Intelligence. After various schools he was assigned to 7th Psychological Operations in Okinawa, Japan, Chief of the Singapore-Maylasia desk in support of efforts in the Far East. He and Susan enjoyed their years in the 180 degree cultural experience, taking advantage of travel.
He then mustered out as Captain and went with the rapidly expanding Best Products, opening locations in Toledo, Flint, Akron and Cherry Hill, New Jersey. He has served on various boards, including Big Brothers Big Sisters, Cherry Hill. He enjoyed fellowship in his many locations of residence and in Richmond, a member of First Baptist Church.
In 1985, he and Susan opened a travel agency, International Tours and GalaxSea Cruises, retiring after 30 years. He and Susan were blessed by many friends in all the many places they lived, and in all their travels visiting 6 continents. The 7th was on the books. He thoroughly enjoyed keeping up with college football and his "Bama" football. His interests were politics, keeping up with events in the nation, the world and financial realm.
Visitation is Sunday, September 29, 2019, 2 pm to 4 pm and 6 pm to 8 pm at the Huguenot Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Road. Funeral Services will be held Monday, September 30th at Bethlehem Baptist Church, 9600 Midlothian Turnpike, Richmond, Virginia 23235. Tributes may be made to Fork Union Military Academy, 4744 James Madison Highway, Fork Union, Virginia. Fork Union, founded in1898 has maintained their solid Christian-based education of building and developing young men in one of the remaining premier military boarding schools in the country.
