Robert William Shires, 83, of Midlothian, VA, passed away peacefully with family by his side on February 10, 2022 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was known to many people as "Bobby" or "LT". He was born in Crewe, VA and was the oldest of four.
He is survived by his loving wife, Connie; two daughters, Stephanie Webster (Billy) of Raleigh, NC, and Paula Shires; four grandchildren; Braiden Webster, Makenna Webster, Ashton Cordle, and Hudson Cordle; one sister, Betty Shires, and two brothers, Ronnie and Donnie Shires.
He was a standout athlete in high school in football, basketball and baseball. After graduation he was recruited to the CIA, where he traveled overseas for several years. For the last 25 years he worked as a Lieutenant for the Virginia ABC and worked full time until October 2021.
He played co-ed softball for many years as an adult, then played on a men's senior travel team. He gave it up when his grandchildren started playing travel ball to become their biggest fan.
He loved fishing, sports, playing games, good food and jokes, but most importantly his joy was spending time with his grandchildren, who affectionately called him Papa.
A celebration of life will be held at 1pm on Saturday, February 19, 2022 at Woody Funeral Home on Huguenot Road with a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to ASK Childhood Cancer Foundation at askccf.org
