ESLEECK, Richard Calvert, Jr., “Cal” of Midlothian, VA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at the age of 72. The son of Richard Calvert Esleeck and Mattie Query Esleeck, Cal was raised in Portsmouth, VA. He graduated from Virginia Tech, was commissioned as an officer in the United States Marine Corps and served in Vietnam from 1968 to 1969.
After military service, Cal earned an MBA and became a Certified Public Accountant, serving the clients of his firm, Murray and Esleeck, for 30 years. Cal was a long-time member of St. Marks United Methodist Church, a member of James River Kiwanis Club and a board member of Village Bank from its inception. He was a founding member and first president of the Families of the Wounded Fund, a non-profit organization to help the families of combat-wounded service men and women receiving treatment at McGuire Veteran’s Hospital. In recent years he enjoyed planning reunions to reconnect with old friends, both from high school and the Marine Corps.
Cal particularly loved his time spent in Duck, NC with family and friends. A thoughtful and honest man, his was a true life of service - to his family, his friends and anyone who could use a helping hand. He will be sorely missed by each and every one whose life he touched. Cal is survived by his wife of 48 years, Martha; daughter Ryan Beach (Blake); daughter Lauren Gibbons (Brad); and four grandchildren, Chayse, Avery, Walker and Harrison, who adored their Poppy.
A visitation will be held at the Huguenot Chapel of Woody Funeral Home on Monday, October 24th, from 5 – 7 pm. A memorial service will be held at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 11551 Lucks Lane, on Tuesday, October 25th, at 2 PM. Cal was passionate about education, the Corps, and helping others.
