She survived her husband Gene E. Lane, Sr., to whom she was married for over 70 years.
She was a strong family person with deep Christian upbringing and beliefs with her father being a Baptist minister for 30 years. She was born in Lancaster County and raised in Richmond. She graduated from John Marshall High School and lived many of her years in Highland Park, Mechanicsville, Gwynn’s Island and Chester. She worked part time while raising her 3 children in Mechanicsville.
Jane was a very strong woman with unmatched love for her friends and family. With her sharp wit and ability to make everyone smile when she entered a room, she made friends quickly. She was a true American patriot and loved her country.
Jane enjoyed singing in church and anywhere she heard a tune. She loved watching Jeopardy with her husband, kids, grandkids, and was always willing to play a round of cards. She was a wonderful mother, wife, friend, fantastic cook, and loved fixing her world-renowned Chesapeake Bay crab cakes. She and Gene enjoyed spending time at their home on Gwynn’s Island on the Chesapeake Bay. In addition, they loved spending time with family on their OBX beach vacations and eating crabs and delicious seafood while winning card games with their kids and grandkids.
Jane loved life and lived it to the fullest as often as she could. She was a respectful, gracious, strong, hardworking, God-loving woman that cherished her friends and family. She will be missed but is now at peace with her Creator, her husband, friends, and family that have gone before her.
Jane is survived by three children, Cindy Hughes, Skip Lane (Anne), and Cheryl Corser; five grandchildren, Samantha Boswell (Justin), Allison Bower (Hunter), Jennifer Hymel (Avery), Amanda Lane, and James Lane; and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Woody Funeral Home Huguenot Chapel, 1020 Huguenot Rd., Midlothian Va. Visitation at 10 a.m.
