He was preceded in death by his father, Spencer Thomas Hancock Sr, and his mother, Hazel Sutton Hancock. He is survived by his wife, Phyliss B. Hancock; daughter, Tina Hancock Rodin, son-in-law, Andrei A. Rodin, daughter, Karen Hancock Rodgers, son-in-law, Joseph W. Rodgers, son-in-law Robert Roy Guarnera; and his grandchildren, Jason Robert Guarnera, Kelsey Elena Guarnera, and Lauren Emily Guarnera.
Norman attended John Marshall High School graduating in 1956 and was the Treasurer of the John Marshall Cadet Corps Alumni Association. After high school he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps Reserves and served at Parris Island and Camp Lejeune in 1956 and 1957. He went on to attend the University of Richmond and obtained his Bachelor of Science.
Norman married his wife Phyliss in 1959 and they had two daughters, Tina and Karen, and three grandchildren Jason, Kelsey, and Lauren that he loved deeply. In addition to his own children, he was a father figure to several nieces and nephews that were dear to him. Norman worked many years at Scott & Stringfellow where he retired as the Compliance Director in 2005. As a hobby Norman loved to play the clarinet which he did while in the Marine Corp Reserves and later in a band during his retirement.
He was a freemason with the Masonic Lodge which is based on the belief that each man has a responsibility to help make the world a better place, which Norman did every day. He was an active member of the Bon Air United Methodist Church and was grounded in faith. Norman was a family man and a best friend to many as this was the cornerstone of his life. Filled with love and kindness, Norman Lee Hancock will be greatly missed, and he lives on in the hearts of those he touched.
