Michael was born in Queens, New York, to father Lt. Col. John McQuade and Irene Schneider. Michael had spent years of his childhood in Arizona, Germany, Ft. McClellan, Alabama, Okinawa, Japan, and Hampton, Virginia.
Michael was a graduate of Hampton High School, Virginia Tech, and the VCU School of Dentistry. Michael dedicated his professional life to providing quality dental care to those in need. As the owner/CEO of Affordable Dental Solutions (previously Happy Smiles), Michael cared deeply for his patients and saw it as a high honor to serve his community. Additionally, he was a volunteer dentist at Cross Over Ministries.
Michael was very involved within the addiction recovery community in Richmond, serving as a sponsor in several local chapters of Narcotics Anonymous, and serving on the board of the McShin Foundation. Likewise, Michael initiated and advocated for the introduction of the 2013 Virginia General Assembly House Bill 1672, which authorized unlicensed individuals, such as parents or police officers, to administer Nasal Narcan in case of an overdose.
In his personal life, Michael was a dedicated father to his four children and grandfather to his two grandchildren.
Michael was preceded in his death by his father, Lt. Col. John P. McQuade; his baby brother, John James McQuade; his older brother, Matthew “Matt” Charles McQuade; and his mother, Irene Theresa Schneider.
Michael is survived by his daughter Shannon Campbell, her husband, Frederick “Chad” Campbell, and his two grandsons, Quinn and River; his son, Patrick McQuade, and his partner Devin Haithcock; his son, Austin McQuade; his daughter, Zoe McQuade; long-time friend and co-parent Virginia “Ginny” VanOrman; his sister, Diane Slate; his brother’s spouses, Cathy and Candy McQuade; a large extended family; and a host of friends and colleagues.
A celebration of Michael’s life will be held at Woody Funeral Home Huguenot Chapel on June 8th from 12pm to 4pm. Guests are encouraged to wear tie-dye in Michael’s honor.
