NELSON, Lois, entered into eternal life on February 19, 2011 after a two and a half year battle with brain cancer. Survived by college sweetheart and husband of 41 years, Don; sons, Christopher and his wife, Kelli, and Michael Nelson and his wife, Joan; six grandchildren, Sarah, Molly, Rachel, Mary Kate, Will and Lily Beth; close cousin, Betty Wilcher; and many friends.
Lois was born and raised in Staunton, Va., where she grew in faith with the Lord, and formed lifelong friendships. Lois loved her boys and grandchildren and was loved by many. Lois had a beautiful voice and sang in several churches and the Choir of the College of William & Mary, from where she graduated, and then traveled with husband Don in Army service, staying at home, raising her children and later becoming an RN who served at Johnston-Willis Hospital. Lois had an adventurous streak becoming certified in scuba and hiking often, and she loved sailing on the Chesapeake Bay. She will be remembered as faithful and caring and one who always thought of others.
The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Huguenot Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Road, where services will be conducted 10 a.m. Wednesday. Interment private in Staunton, Va. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Redeemer Lutheran Church
