Lisa Schaffner – a community advocate, adoring mother, beloved wife, and friend to all – referred to as a legend and one of Richmond’s greatest treasures left us to be with her Heavenly Father on August 19th, 2021.
Lisa was genuinely loved by thousands for her friendship, unique talents, generosity, kindness, adoration of her community, civic mindfulness, love of her family, and perhaps most of all for her infectious, hilarious, sense of humor and smile.
Born February 1962 in Baltimore, Ohio to Terry and Linda Schaffner, she was a small-town girl destined for a larger-than-life future. After graduating from Ohio University, she began her dream career in TV broadcasting. She spent over 30 years sharing her love of life across New York, Wisconsin, and Richmond, Virginia.
Following her broadcast career, Lisa joined United Network for Organ Sharing and embodied the phrase that she coined, “Team UNOS”. She took pride in creating life-changing relationships through organ donation and considered everyone she met to be family. UNOS perpetuated her passion to help others and was yet another avenue for Lisa to advocate and support the community that she was a proud member of for over 25 years. What she did for her family and friends, the people she met, and those she didn’t, can never be measured in dollars or counted in lives touched, it can only be measured by the breadth of her smile that lights the faces of those thinking of her – this is the way she would want to be remembered.
Lisa is survived by her father and mother, Terry and Linda Schaffner, her brother, Michael Schaffner, her two children, Danielle and Jesse Powell and her loving her husband and family, Tyrone Ashman, Erika Jefferson, Mallory Heath, Jordan Ashman and three grandchildren, that brought the biggest smile to her face every day.
Funeral services are being handled by Woody Funeral Home Huguenot. In Lieu of flowers, Lisa would love a donation to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), or your favorite local charity.
