Joseph E. Austin Jr.

Joseph Elvin Austin, Jr. passed on from this life on Saturday, July 2, 2022. Joe was born in Richmond, Virginia on April 24, 1926 to Joseph E. Austin, Sr. and Marian Goldsby. He was raised in Richmond, Virginia and graduated from John Marshall High School. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the Navy, serving in the South Pacific at the end of World War II. He married Katheryn Jennings Arnall in 1949. He worked his entire professional career as a Clerk of Court for the City of Richmond. Joe was also a long-time, dedicated member of Bethany Place Baptist Church.

Joe is survived by his children Steven Austin and Susan Owens (Jeff); his grandchildren Benjamin Austin-Docampo (Kari), Matthew Owens, Natalie Owens Palazini (Ryan), and Lily Henry-Austin; as well as many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Katheryn and his son, Joseph Arnall Austin.

Joe loved his wife, children and grandchildren, and always took good care of them. He took great pride in maintaining his home and property. He enjoyed football and baseball, especially the Nationals. Joe will be greatly missed by his family and neighbors, but we know he is now in God’s presence and we are grateful that he is at peace.

Visitation will be at Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Road, Midlothian, on Saturday, July 16, 2022, from 9 to 11:30, followed by a brief graveside service at noon at Westhampton Memorial Park, 10000 Patterson Ave, Richmond. All family and friends are welcome.
