To my best friend Susan, Glenn and Guy,
It is unbelievable that it has been a year since Mike's passing.  A day doesn't pass that I don't think about him.  My heart remains broken that he was taken too early from all of us.  We have known you for roughly 32 years.   There are way too many memories to share but I will cherish all of them till death do us part with the Cheatham family.  Susan and Mike raised two amazing children!  He was so proud of them.  I will always remember Mike's enthusiasm and love for sports, food, his cars, how impeccable he always dressed [even at the gym], and his ethics. 

I do need to share this more recent memory:  Susan asked me to pick up Mike from the cancer treatment center at JW following his treatment because she was expecting a delivery at home.  This was about 2 to 3 weeks prior to his passing.

I picked him up thinking he would be exhausted and ragged.  I drove up and he hopped in the car like he was in his twenties.  He was smiling and extremely talkative.  Of course, he was well dressed and his hair perfect.  He asked about everyone in MY family, what MY day was like, what am I doing afterwards and thanked me profusely for picking him up.   He didn't talk about anything associated with his health.  He talked all the way home which wasn't that far but I just had to laugh.  That was my last memory and the very last time I saw him alive.  That ride home will forever be with me!  I was so thankful to have had that time, by myself with him.  I never really told him how much he and his family meant to me...Love You Mike Cheatham!

Bob and I were so surprised and saddened to learn about Mike.  Such a wonderful man - I loved sharing  our golf problems on the driving range!  He always mentioned his adoring wife and children!

Mike was my dear friend of 51 years and we had some crazy times together. I met him first quarter of his Freshman year and we bonded immediately through our Fraternity, Sigma Phi Epsilon.  Mike was competitive, honest, engaging and a bunch of fun. One of the highlights of my entire life has been my friendship with Mike and his family. After college we have traveled together most years and have had many laughs and memories. Friends and family is really all that matters and Mike was my Brother and friend.

I met Mike at Virginia Tech as a pledge of SPE.  He was a very supportive Alumni and I did buy insurance from one of his students Ron Clary.  I later settled in Blacksburg in the car business and we talked a lot about cars.  He loved his Nissan Z which I remember seeing him drive around town.   He embodied what I would call great Virginia values that was probably handed down by his parents.  Virginia has lost one of its Gentlemen.  RIP brother

Dear Susan, Guy and Glenn,
As I know you are, I am in shock learning of Mikes death. Mike and I just talked 2 weeks ago. We talked about family, business and the possibility of getting together this summer.
Mike was a true friend and I knew I could always count on him. He always had a positive attitude and nothing could get him down. He had the ability to create great solutions in any situation.
I will always be grateful for the many hours we spent together at NFP meetings, study groups and conferences.
Mike will remain a close friend and he will bring a smile to me as I remember the great times we had together.
I pray this sad time will pass and that Mike will bring a smile to you as you remember the love and laughter you had together.
Mike wanted everyone to know that he loved his family and was so proud of all of you.

I am writing to express my sincere condolences.  Your husband and father was a class act.  They just don't make them like that anymore.  We were in the same study group for years and spent time at industry meetings on a regular basis.    Mike was a straight shooter, honest, upbeat and an expert in his field.   I can only hope that every time you think of him, a giant smile emerges.

Mike Cheatham was never, ever without a smile.  He was a friendly and likeable person and everyone was his friend.  He took good care of himself and we had many conversations at ACAC while working out.  
He was a master at  networking and had a talent to bring people together.  His family was his pride and my deep condolences to Susan whom I have known for years.  They don't make em' like Mike anymore.  We will miss you buddy.

Mike was a special friend both personally and professionally. We shared many hours together in our study group, Industry conferences and some memorable, sojourns with our spouses and friends. Mike was a compassionate, ethical,  competitive, professional. He was well respected and everyone who knew Mike enjoyed his positive attitude, his insightfulness and his devotion to his family. I was blessed to have known and enjoyed his friendship. I pray that the sorrow Susan, Guy and Glenn currently feel will be swiftly replaced with all the loving, fun and  wonderful memories they have shared with Mike.
Mike will always be with us in Spirit.

I was saddened to hear of Mike's passing! I knew Mike for about 20 years. I am in human resources and we would meet ever so often over the years at P.F. Changs for lunch and discuss business, family & children, va tech ( my dad went there and our oldest son in there now), va tech football,  and world events. Mike is true a professional, honest, compassionate, and just an overall wonderful human being! May fond memories, which I am sure are abundant,  help you through this difficult time! God Bless!

My sincere condolences to the family for your loss.  I knew Mike from our industry meetings and conferences over the years.  While I've met many people through these meetings, I can say that Mike left an impression on me.  He was  a very genuine, thoughtful and friendly man.  Mike was a man worth emulating, and everyone I know that knew Mike, admired him.  God bless.

Mike was a genuine, caring and honest man who lived his life to the fullest.  Always optimistic, even in the face of significant obstacles, Mike tried to use his knowledge and experience to guide his clients and friends to help them achieve their objectives.  One of my earliest memories was when I hardly knew Mike, I had to suddenly leave a meeting because of a domestic emergency.  He found where I lived and showed up a few hours later to check in to see if he could help – even though we had known each other little at the time.  Over the years we developed a good agent-client working relationship as well as a friendship.  Despite our significant political differences, we respected each others’ opinions and were eager to engage each other in wide ranging discussions, trying to learn more about our respective opinions and aspirations.  Mike cared deeply for his family, and was genuinely interested in my family – our discussions always included family updates from both sides.  He will be missed by many.

I’m sending my condolences to Mike’s friends and family.  He was a gentleman and a scholar — we worked on several LTC Insurance cases together over the years.  He was a true technician and was always client 1st.  So sorry for your loss.

I am so sorry to hear of Mike’s passing. My family’s love and thoughts and prayers are with you guys. We hope to see you all again soon. He was a great man and I always enjoyed our time together. 

I am so sad  to learn that my friend Mike has passed on. He was one of the people I most looked forward to meeting at the various industry functions. 
We became friends and I always would joke with him that he ought be careful about befriending a northern Yankee.

Heartbroken for Mike's family, I remember him from my first year of teaching at Elkhardt Middle School as a bright, well-mannered young 8th grader. He was always prepared for English class, and made numerous insightful contributions to the class.  I can see from his obituary that he indeed was successful all through his life.  RIP, Mike.

I don't even know where to start with memories of Mike Cheatham. I vividly remember meeting Mike and Juanita Taylor Arcaro first period on my first day of 8th grade. Both became important people in my life. Juanita became the best friend I ever had; Mike was my first date. Romantic involvement between Mike and me didn't take, but we were friends in a special relationship forever after. I thought he was cute, funny, intelligent, exasperating, smug, arrogant, and conceited, and he knew it. I can imagine what he'd say he thought of me. We teased, picked at, argued, fought, and laughed together all through high school. Looking back, I think we enjoyed every single minute of that. We stayed in touch for a while after high school, but you know how that goes. He started the committee for our 50th class reunion (alas, COVID pushed that to our 51st, scheduled for October 2021). Juanita soon joined him as co-chair, and about a year and a half ago, I joined the committee, too. So I did get to see Mike again, even if only via Zoom. Even after so much time, I knew we were still friends. Since I got the email about his passing from Juanita, I've thought of him non-stop. Thanks for the memories, Mike. RIP  To Mike's family, my heart hurts for you.

I knew Mike through SigEps, Va. Tech, 1972-76, I loved him as a friend, a really great guy. I am so sorry for his loss. May his memory be eternal! RIP!

Mike was devoted to his family, his huge universe of friends, his university (VA Tech), his fraternity, his profession helping and serving others, and his community.  Few lives have had that kind of impact across nearly 70 years. We all are grateful for him touching our lives and so many others with his warmth and sincerity.  May he rest in peace. 

Susan, I'm so so sorry to hear of the loss of the love of your life.  I'll never forget how you were here for me at the worst time of my life, so thoughtful, caring and kind.
