Dwayne Alexander Terrier, 61, of Chesterfield, Virginia, left us December 17, 2021 surrounded by people he loved. He will be missed dearly by his family and friends, but his outrageous stories, love of music and cooking will continue to bring joy to many for years to come.
He is survived by his loving wife, Wendy; sons, Dwayne “Alex” (Beth) and Dale (Sammi); grandchildren, Kinsley, Brayden and Delaney; brother, Michael (Gladys); sisters, Jean (Terry), Yvonne (Cleve) and Pam; along with much extended family and an abundance of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rupert and Dorothy Terrier. Dwayne’s family meant everything to him; he was unendingly proud of his sons and the strong, loving men they have become. Whether it was rooting for the Miami Dolphins, being project manager for a home project, making a delicious Sunday dinner, or playing on the slip and slide with his grandchildren, he took advantage of having his sons live in the neighborhood and loved spending time with family.
He was 21 when he married his wife, Wendy, and they moved from south Florida to Virginia. He took a job at Virginia Power/Dominion Energy where his career took many turns for almost 40 years. Dwayne was looking forward to retirement in November 2022.
A longtime drummer, Dwayne started playing during middle school in drum corps but it wasn’t until later in life that he found his love for congas and all things percussion. Dwayne played in multiple TropRock bands from Pennsylvania to Key West. Motorcycle riding was another love of Dwayne’s. He and Wendy met some of their best friends while riding winding roads up and down the east coast. Dwayne had a passion for cooking and he threw the best parties. His annual pig roast combined his favorite things- good friends, live music, and receiving compliments on his “butt”.
A celebration of his life will be held on January 28, 2022 from 5pm-8pm at Woody Funeral Home on Huguenot Road.
Please bring a favorite memory or picture in an envelope to put in the memory box for Dwayne’s family.
In lieu of flowers please make a donation in his name to the American Cancer Society.
