He lived a life full of purpose, kindness, and dedication, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of so many. Dong Joon worked as a financial consultant for non-profit organizations, a role that reflected his deep desire to serve others. His work was more than a career; it was a calling. He found immense joy in helping non-profits serve people in need and supporting causes close to his heart.
A faithful man of God, Dongjoon devoted much of his life to ministry. Since his teenage years, he found great joy in praise and worship, using his gifts to lead and inspire. His heart for youth and college ministries was unwavering, encouraging countless young people to join praise teams, youth groups, and to grow in their faith. As a praise leader, he continued to serve with passion and dedication, leading worship even until shortly before his passing.
He had an insatiable curiosity and a love for the simple joys of life. Whether he was sharing stories about his collection of wines, whiskies, and bourbons, or experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen, Dong Joon was always eager to learn, explore, and share his experiences. A savvy deal-hunter, he took great pride in finding the best gadgets, always eager to share his latest discoveries with a smile. He also enjoyed trips around the world with his family, creating cherished memories.
Dongjoon will be remembered for his warmth, humor, and generous spirit. His love for God, family, friends, and the youth he mentored lives on in the lives he touched.
He is survived by his wife, Unsin An; daughter, Natalie Hwang; son, Ethan Hwang; parents. Insoo Hwang and Hui Suk Un from Alabama; brother, Donovan Hwang; sister-in-law, Grace Cha; nephew, Ryan Hwang; nieces Bella and Emma Hwang, of California; sister-in-law, Unmi Womble; niece, Collier Womble, nephew, Stetten Womble of Virginia; sister-in-law, Uni An; brother-in-law, Nash Francis; nephew, Declan Francis and niece, Poppy Francis of Virginia.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 22 from 3-5pm. A service to honor and celebrate his life will begin at 5pm. Please wear bright colors as we celebrate Dongjoon’s joyful life.
In lieu of flowers, the family will set up a scholarship fund to help inspiring young leaders.
His legacy of faith, service, and love will continue to inspire those who were blessed to know him. May he rest in peace, rejoicing in the presence of the Lord.
