Obituary of Cooper Henry Abbott
ABBOTT, Cooper Henry, age nine, earned his angel wings on November 27, 2017, in Richmond, Virginia, surrounded by his loving family and legions of friends around the country who were inspired by his courageous story. Having first battled and won against cancer at age two and again at age six, Cooper succumbed to leukemia following a yearlong campaign to rid his brave body after the disease returned. In spite of his illnesses, Cooper played baseball, practiced Tae Kwon Do, was an avid Star Wars fan and last year, even began 3rd grade alongside his classmates, a benchmark highlighted by Cooper's winning of the school "Citizenship Award" – a distinction that pleased him mightily. Cooper was the most considerate, humble and thoughtful of children. Cooper was born on October 12, 2008, in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, one of his favorite places. He was the beloved son of Alexander G. and Anne T. Abbott; and was the best and proudest big brother to Benjamin Gregory, born earlier this year. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Gregory Abbott and Robert Crostic. His bright, brave soul also lives on in the memory of his devoted grandparents, Claire Crostic, Arlene Fransen (Bruce) and Cecil Perry; aunts and uncles, Keith Abbott (Catherine Ham), Carl Crostic (Tracy) and Jennifer Dinsmore-Perry; numerous cousins and especially his best friends, Addison and Owen Crostic. A celebration of Cooper's life will be held at 2 p.m. this Saturday, December 2, at Bon Air United Methodist Church, 1645 Buford Road. Fellowship and hospitality will follow. Cooper's family asks that donations in his memory be made to Li-Fraumeni Syndrome Association.
