IN THE CARE OF
Woody Funeral Home Huguenot Chapel
Thacker, Catherine Hollifield, affectionately known to friends and family as “Sissy,” 89, of Richmond, passed away on April 17, 2018. She leaves to cherish her memory her two daughters, Linda Cannady (Dale) and Nancy Fulghum (Jesse); her three grandsons, Drew Cannady (Chris), Michael Cannady (Lesley), and Brent Judd; her two great-grandchildren, Nathan Cannady and Cora Cannady; and her sister, Helen McCrone. In her later years, Sissy was cared for by the staff at Spring Arbor and by Brittany Pope. The family is grateful to them for their loving care of Sissy.
After graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School, Sissy received a scholarship to an art school in New York City, but did not attend because her mother felt that a single girl should not live in the Big Apple. Instead, Sissy began a career with C&P Telephone Company, where she worked for more than 20 years. Sissy enjoyed poker games with her friends, an Old Fashioned with her sister, and shopping trips to pretty much anywhere. She was open-minded, insightful, and generous to a fault. She was a long-term member of Westover Baptist Church, and was devoted to her family. She adored her late husband Raymond Thacker, who used to make her laugh so hard that tears would stream down her face. It is the memories of Sissy and Ray, laughing together after almost 70 years of marriage, that her family will cherish most.
A gravesite memorial service will be held at Dale Memorial Park Cemetery, 10201 Newbys Bridge Road, at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 21, 2018, followed by a celebration of Sissy’s life at Willow Oaks Country Club, 6228 Forest Hill Avenue, at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests giving an act of kindness to someone who is lonely. You won’t have to look far.
