Ann B. Dancy, 91 passed away August 28th, 2023 at Johnston Willis Hospital. At her beside was her surviving family: sons Edward T. “Taylor” Dancy of Richmond, VA and Timothy E. “Tim” Dancy of Mocksville, NC.
Ann was born in Winston-Salem, NC, the youngest child of Coy Eugene and Nelle Marsh Bailey, both deceased. Her only sibling, brother Donald E. Bailey, is also deceased. She graduated from RJ Reynolds High School, and briefly attended Guilford College before leaving to marry her husband of 68 years, Edward T. “Ed” Dancy, also deceased. After their marriage, Ann worked at Western Electric in Winston until their first son Taylor was born. She spent the rest of her marriage as a stay at home mom and wife, which was one of her life’s goals. Ann’s father Coy had 18 brothers and sisters; she developed an inseparable bond with her uncles, aunts, and countless cousins that remained a focus of her life. But they held no higher place in her heart than her husband’s extended family, whom she remained close with until her passing.
Ann and Ed moved to Midlothian, VA in 1977, after Ed’s promotion from the Universal Leaf Tobacco Co. They would live in the same house until their passing, and Ann and her home became a solid rock for their Hillanne neighborhood. She faithfully attended first the Chippenham Church of Christ, and then for several years before her passing the Southwest Church of Christ in Chesterfield, VA. Ann was a loving wife and mother, and cared deeply for family members and friends. But her first love and source of inspiration was God, through Jesus Christ.
Ann was a woman full of energy, and devoted time to many volunteer causes. Perhaps most notable was her dedication to first the NC, then VA Extension Homemakers Council. She would serve in several capacities over decades, including the office of President.
Visitation for Ann is Sunday, September 3rd from 2-4:00 pm at Woody Funeral Home, Huguenot Chapel. Her church memorial service and following reception will start at 12 noon, Monday, September 4th at Southwest Church of Christ, 5340 Courthouse Rd. in Chesterfield. Her graveside service will take place at 1:00 pm, Wednesday the 6th at Boyers Chapel Church of Christ cemetery, Peace Haven Road in Winston-Salem, NC.
The family requests any memorial donations in lieu of flowers go to the Southwest Church of Christ.
