Alice Veronica Powers, age 94, of Midlothian, Virginia earned her angel wings after a brief illness on October 22, 2015. The daughter of Harold and Mary Skay was born on Sunday, September 4, 1921 at 9 Burnett Street, Avenel, New Jersey. Alice was preceded in death by her parents, her husband William, her sister Marie Hudson and brother Harold Skay, and her granddaughter Michelle Powers. She was a graduate of Woodbridge High School, Woodbridge N.J. She married to William J. Powers on January 30, 1943 at the Saint Andrews Catholic Church, Avenel, N.J.
After living a short time in Rahway, N.J., Alice and Bill made their home on Burnett Street, Avenel N.J., where they lived for the remainder of their married life of over 60 years. After graduating from high school, Alice’s first job was working for a dairy farm. Later in life she worked in administrative positions for several firms, but she was primarily a wonderful homemaker raising four sons. After Alice’s husband retired, they traveled visiting Northern Europe, Turkey, Israel, and Greece and took the occasional cruise. Following the death of her husband in 2003, Alice moved to Midlothian, Virginia. She loved Virginia, always commenting on the beauty of the state and the friendliness of her neighbors. Alice is survived by her four sons and daughters-in-law, William and June, and Thomas and Linda of Midlothian, VA; Robert and Robyn of Lancaster, PA; and James and Andrea of Bayonne, N.J, and by her grandchildren, Laurie Perkins, Stephen Powers, Danielle Powers, Casey and Marisa Powers, as well as her great grandchildren Mikayla and Tyler Perkins.
