Al is survived by the love of his life, Pat Collins (married for 50 years), two brothers, Tom and Mike, three sons, Christian (Rhonda), Zac (Bethany), and Adam (Melissa). Al greatly loved all of his 7 grandchildren, Mckaylah, Garrett, Gabe, Sam, Drew, Ava and Emma.
Al graduated from Virginia Tech and worked for Phillip Morris, USA for 28 years where he received 8 U.S. patents and 5 International patents for machinery. Al valued many things in this life, but his relationship with Jesus Christ and his family far outweighed all else. As with the rest of his life, after retirement, Al loved to serve people and the ministry at Immanuel Baptist Church where he has been an elder and engaged member for 44 years. He also served, and chaired, the board at the Braille Circulating Library for many years. Motivated by the love and forgiveness he received from Jesus Christ, Al loved people and that love was proven with more than just words, but with much action. Because of this, and so much more, Al will be greatly missed.
He will be laid to rest at Westhampton Memorial Park, 10000 Patterson Ave., Henrico, VA 23238. A celebration of Al’s life will take place at a later date to be determined.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at St. Francis for all they did during the final days of Al’s life.
We ask that in lieu of flowers donations be sent to the Braille Circulating Library, 2700 Stuart Avenue Richmond, VA 23220.
