Wilma Smith was born on June 2, 1926, to Claude and Beaulah Dorris. She was the youngest of six children. She grew up and went to school in the small town of Louise, Texas. There, she met Clifton Smith. They married in Edna, Texas on December 9, 1943 and were married 47 years before he passed on February 12, 1991. Together, they had four daughters; Twyla, Sandra, Brenda, and Bobbie. When the girls were young, they moved to Midland, where Clifton worked for Webb Davis Fruit Company for 23 years. Wilma worked there for eight years before they went out of business in 1982. She also worked for Westminster Presbyterian Church from 1987 - 1996 in the Mother's Day Out program. She also worked in the nursery at Terrace Hills Baptist Church in Odessa for 12 years, until retiring in March 2009. She was a member of the Midessa Heights Baptist Church for many years before joining Cuthbert Avenue Baptist Church. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Brenda Chambers and Sandra Blakeney; a grandson, James Blakely; a great grandson, Cade Thomas; and by her son-in-law, Bobby Thames. She is survived by two daughters, Twyla Thams and Bobbie Bronaugh, both of Midand; two sons-in-law, Mike Chambers of Papalota, Texas, and Joel Blakeney of Sweetwater, Texas; grandchildren, Craig (Angie) Thames, Mark (Vickie) Thames, Bob (Nicole) Thames, Michael (Amanda) Chambers, Richard (Jennifer) Chambers, Jody Blakeney, Robby (Nanay) Blakeney, Stephanie Bronaugh, Steven (Crysta) Bronaugh; 21 great grandchildren, three great, great grandchildren, and two more that will be here soon. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and other various family members and friends. Visitation will be on Wednesday, January 21, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Ellis Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at Ellis Funeral Home on Thursday, January 22, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. Craig Thames will officiate. Pallbearers will be Mark Thames, Steven Bronaugh, Tyler Thames, Wesley Davis, Richard Chambers, and Michael Chambers. Honorary pallbearers will be John Harris, Jr., and other grandchildren and great grandchildren.
