Victor (Vic) Brown, 90, of Midland, passed into the loving arms of his precious Alice Sue and our Heavenly Father on Monday, November 29, 2010. Victor was born July 4, 1920 in Texarkana, Texas to Samuel Cullwell and Anna Elizabeth Henley Brown. Victor was the youngest of seven children. He was a member of the greatest generation; forged in the Great Depression and tempered by WWII where he served in the United States Coast Guard. Victor spent his early years in Texarkana and later on a farm near Marshall. He carried the memories of his life on the farm with him throughout his life. Amidst the tumult of the Great Depression, Victor’s family moved to Houston where he graduated from Reagan High School and the Houston Business College. In 1938, Victor met the love of his life, Alice Sue Jones. They married March 7, 1942 in Rosenberg, Texas and spent the next 54 years together until Alice Sue’s death on May 14, 1996. Victor worked for Scurlock Oil Company from the date he was discharged from the Coast Guard in 1946 until his retirement, January 1, 1987. Victor was a crude oil buyer/seller for Scurlock in Houston and was transferred to Midland in 1964 to build the West Texas / Eastern New Mexico division. He remained in that position until his retirement in 1987. Shortly after retirement, Victor was afflicted with macular degeneration. Though legally blind, he embarked on a second career as a ballroom dancer. He took the worst life threw at him and turned it into good. He was always cheerful and upbeat, a positive force for good. Victor was a member of Midland West Rotary Club, Holland Lodge #1 of Houston, Acacia Lodge of Midland, Midland Commandery, The Suez Shrine Temple of San Angelo, and five ballroom/country western dance clubs in Midland and Odessa. Victor was a gentleman, in the very best sense of the term. Victor built a strong and loving family. He is preceded in death by his wife, Alice Sue; son, James Morrison; an infant grandson and twin great-grandsons. Victor is survived by son, Charles Victor and wife Kimberly of Flagstaff, AZ; beloved daughter, Alice Ann Cunningham and husband Mike of Ransom Canyon, TX; Son James Morrison’s former wife and loving mother of their children, Linda Brown Knabe of Midland; Grandchildren, Amanda Dove and husband Keith of Midland; Chelle Brown of Robert Lee, TX; Charles Brown of Flagstaff, AZ; David Brown and wife Jami of Flagstaff, AZ; Erin Cunningham and husband Preston of Pearland, Texas; Andrew Cunningham and wife Megan of Lubbock, TX; Preston Brown of Houston, TX; Kadence Benét Brown of Flagstaff, AZ; and Addyson Grace Brown of Flagstaff, AZ; Eight great-grandchildren whom Victor loved and adored; sister, Anna Belle Talley of Brenham, TX.
