Vera Lucille Fisher, born February 22, 1924, to Otha Maxwell and Hattie Maxwell Finley, passed away on February 25, 2025 at the age of 101. She was the beloved wife of Robert (Bob) Fisher, with whom she shared a beautiful marriage.
Vera was the devoted mother of four children: Glynwood Fisher (Gilda) of Cedar Hill, TX; Carolyn Wallace (Kenneth, late) of Houston, TX; Bobbie Stoniecki (Michael) of Murphy, TX; and Michael Fisher of Murphy, TX. Her family was her pride and joy, and her legacy lives on through her nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Preceded in death by her brothers, William Maxwell, Odis Maxwell, and Vernon Maxwell, as well as her sister Elzora Fisher, Vera cherished the bond she shared with her siblings.
An avid sports fan, Vera had a deep passion for football, basketball, and tennis. Whether cheering for the Dallas Cowboys, the Golden State Warriors or the Williams sisters, her enthusiasm for sports was infectious.
Vera dedicated her life to education and community service. She was a lifetime member of the National PTA and served as president of the PTA at Ralph Bunche Elementary and Carver High School. Her commitment to the community extended to her role as a Girl Scout Leader and Cookie Chairman.
A lifelong member of the Lee Street Church of Christ, Vera faithfully attended for over 70 years, teaching Bible classes to both children and adults. She was particularly involved in the Women’s Ministry, where she made significant contributions to the spiritual growth of many.
As the mother of a special needs son, Vera was deeply involved in the Midland MARC organization. She often volunteered to chaperone events with Special Olympics, encouraging and supporting athletes in bowling, basketball, and baseball.
Vera Lucille Fisher’s life was a testament to love, service, and dedication. All who had the honor of knowing her will profoundly miss her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends, including many nieces and nephews with whom she was very close. She will also be remembered by those she touched through her community involvement, church activities and unwavering faith. She often quoted: “God is Good, all the time, and All the time, God is Good.”
As a devoted PTA member, Vera was passionate about supporting students and future leaders and deeply admired her late son-in-law Kenneth Wallace, also a lifelong PTA member and educator, for his commitment to education and community.
