She graduated from Lamesa High School in 1950 and went on to marry Ruben Wesley Covington on October 27, 1950. Vera worked at State National Bank in Big Spring, where she retired after many years of service. She was a member of Primitive Baptist Church.
Vera is preceded in death by her husband, Ruben Wesley Covington; parents, Oran Sylvester Simmons and Vera (Hurst) Simmons; siblings, Daniel Maurice Simmons, Mary Frances Simmons, Oran Jack Simmons, James Alford Simmons, Clara Maurine Simmons, Betty Lou Simmons and Georgia Shipman.
Vera is survived by her children, Michael Wesley Covington and wife Carrie Bizzell Covington and Steve Simmons Covington; brother, William Hurst Simmons; five grandchildren, Anna Danielle Cottrell and husband Chad, Katy Laurel Mendoza and husband Ivan, Leah Suzanne Covington, Camron Cristian DeHart and John Wesley Covington; granddaughter-in-law, Dolores Covington; twelve great grandchildren, Hayden, Taylor, Ryan, Jacob, Andrew, Gavin, Reese, Emily, John, Corbon, Audrey and Declan; nine great-great grandchildren; and her beloved dog, Rocco.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Tuesday, August 6, 2024 from 4-8 PM at Ellis Funeral Home, 4616 N. Big Spring St in Midland. Graveside services are scheduled for Wednesday, August 7, 2024 at 11 AM at Resthaven Memorial Park.
