Stanley H. Fox, 85, passed away in Midland, Texas, on April 30, 2011. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 7, 2011, at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, Rev. Kathryn Boren officiating, with entombment following at Resthaven Memorial Park Mausoleum under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home. Honorary pall bearers will be Robert C. Bledsoe, Paul Davis, Jr., Win Farquhar, Lloyd Henderson, Cecil Rhodes and Rodney Robinson.
Stanley was born in Ranger, Texas, May 28, 1925, to George H. and Christine Donaho Fox. He was raised in Dallas and Sulphur Springs, Texas, where he graduated from high school. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in January, 1944 and was discharged in May, 1946, after serving in the South Pacific aboard the U.S.S. Telfair. Following his military service, Stanley attended East Texas State (Texas A&M-Commerce), where he played on the varsity tennis team and received his Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 1948.
Stanley moved to Midland in 1948 and was employed as an oil scout for Amerada Petroleum. In 1950, he began working for Lario Oil & Gas Company and retired in 1999 from Lario as Division Exploration Manager.
Stanley, known as Foxy to his many friends, was a charter member and past Director of the American Association of Professional Landmen, charter and past board member of the Racquet Club of Midland, member and past President of the Permian Basin Landmen’s Association, and a member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church since 1957, where he served four years as treasurer and seven years on various boards.
Stanley was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Linda Kester Fox of Midland, Texas; daughter, Pamela A. White, of Lubbock, Texas; son, Robert H. Fox and wife, Melanie, of Richmond, Texas; daughter, Diane C. Tyler and husband Patrick, of Austin, Texas; grandchildren, who knew him as Papa Stan: Joshua Peterson and wife, Melissa, of Buda, Texas; Valarie Peterson McLearen, and husband, Clifton, of Lubbock, Texas; Landon and Dillon Fox of Richmond, Texas; and three great-granddaughters, Kayla Ann McLearen, of Lubbock, Texas, and Brynn and Shelby Peterson of Buda, Texas.
