Sheila was born in Henryetta, Oklahoma on November 15, 1947. She was preceded in death by her mother, Lizzie Mae (Corbell) Jones; her father, William Lee Jones; and her niece, Samantha Chester.
Sheila received her nursing degree from ENMU-Roswell in New Mexico. She worked at ENMMC in Roswell, New Mexico, and at Carlsbad Medical Center in Carlsbad, New Mexico, before moving to Midland, Texas. She worked at Midland Memorial Hospital, in the Critical Care Unit, from January l, 1989 until she retired on December 27, 2010. Sheila was a Charge Nurse for many of those years. She is remembered by her colleagues as an excellent nurse who gave her patients the best of care. She loved to teach new nurses how to better care for their patients. If there was a call-bell going off, she would not allow any nurses to be sitting down at their stations. "As a nurse, you better be on your feet attending to your patients!" Sheila gave her best, and expected the same of her nurses who were not only coworkers, but more like family. Sheila worked in Nursing for 45 years. She enjoyed her career and life in Midland until she moved to Heaven.
Sheila is survived by her canine companions, Chigger and Cricket; her son and his wife, Dennis and Joy! Hammons, of Roswell, New Mexico; her sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Gary Chester, of Flagstaff, Arizona; and her brother, Roy Jones, of St. George, Utah; her grandson, Shawn Hammons, of Roswell, New Mexico; her nephew and his wife, Lance and Susan Chester, of Divide, Colorado; her nephew and his wife, Shawn and Lisa Chester, of Flagstaff, Arizona; and several great-nieces and nephews.
