Rosie Lee Briscoe

Rosie married the love of her life, Rev. Thurman J. Briscoe on September 10, 1949 in Haskell. The couple relocated throughout the years to Abilene, Springfield, MO and finally to Midland as they grew their family.

She was a kindergarten teacher, Sunday school and children’s church teacher, church nursery director, Awana leader and even had an in-home daycare. Rosie enjoyed sewing, cooking, reading, organizing, planning, singing, playing the piano, gardening and making “to do” lists.

Rosie had a strong faith in the Lord and was saved on July 12, 1963. She loved to share her vast knowledge in a witty way. She would always spend time with kids and grandkids doing crafts, teaching them practical skills and games, along with principles of the Bible. Her faith can be seen throughout her life in her kids, grandchildren, students, friends and everyone she met.

Rosie is survived by her husband of 74 years, Thurman J. Briscoe; daughters, Linda Darlene Winn of Midland, Deborah Rene Horton and husband Jack of Midland and Sharon Sanchez, oldest granddaughter who they raised as a daughter, and husband Mike of Midland; brother, Roy Wright and wife Sue of Haskell; twenty-four grandchildren; forty-four great grandchildren; and thirteen great-great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her sons, Norman Lee Briscoe and Dennis Jay Briscoe; daughter, Anita Diana Cooper; parents, James and Rosie Wright; brothers, William, James, Miles, Vernon, Bobby, Robert and Johnny; sisters, Ella Mae, Maudie, Argie, Mary Fay and Patricia; great grandsons, Joshua Winn and Edward Mays; and great-great granddaughter, Emberlynn Mays.

The family will receive friends for visitation on Thursday, February 15, 2024 from 6-8 at Ellis Funeral Home, 4616 N. Big Spring St. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 16, 2024 at 2 PM at Home Line Baptist Church, 3500 Anetta Dr. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
