Roddy was born on February, 20th 1964 in Lufkin, TX to Sheirran and Bobby Hughes. He graduated from Midland Lee High School in 1982. Shortly after graduating, he married the absolute love of his life, Brookie Lee Hughes, in 1984 and they had an incredible 41 years of travel, adventure, and memories. Roddy and Lee both worked at the State School in San Angelo when they were married as they both had a passion for those with special needs. San Angelo is where they welcomed their first child, Brandy Hughes in 1988. Shortly after Brandy was born they moved to College Station, TX where Roddy began his career in the oilfield working for Texaco. During his short time in College Station their son, Justin Hughes was born in 1989. Over a course of two years the couple welcomed two children into their home and Roddy went to work teaching them how to be kind, independent, and strong. He had many positions over the years that moved him and his family to Denver and then to Houston but ended up moving back to Midland, TX and later retired from Plains Pipeline as an Assistant Division Manager in 2016.
Roddy was accomplished at many things, but his favorite pastimes were definitely golf and gambling. If you couldn’t find him at home with Lee, you just had to check the golf course or the closest convenience store and there he was getting scratch offs or trying to bet his golf buddies he could do something he most likely couldn’t. He was a generous, funny, and a witty man who loved everyone as equals, and everyone loved him right back. Roddy was passionate about travel and you could often find him and Lee on a cruise ship headed somewhere fun or at the craps table in a Las Vegas casino. His children remember him as a focused and devoted father who encouraged them to pursue their goals and helped them reach them along the way. He was a dedicated member of First Baptist Church in Midland.
Roddy is survived by his wife Brookie Lee Hughes of Midland, TX. He is also survived by his children; Brandy Hughes of Abilene, TX and Justin Hughes and his wife, Kelsey Hughes, of Midland, TX. “Pops” leaves behind two grandchildren; Brooklee Hughes of Abilene, TX and Cohen Hughes of Midland, TX.
